OCT 29 ~ Depart from Toronto for the flight to New Orleans. Transfer to Bienville house, on the edge of the French Quarter. The hotel sweetness and its welcoming green apple in the lobby will start your vacation off on the right foot. With its boutique flavour in the most European city in the United States, its four sundecks, courtyard pool and hand painted murals will intrigue you to dine on the patio. After checking into your room, the evening is yours.
OCT 30 ~ We'll board a deluxe tour bus for our Paddle 'n Wheel tour of the Big Easy and cruise of the Mississippi. See monuments as "Joany on the Pony", the Maiden of New Orleans, a gift from France. You'll also view a few of the city's notorious graveyards, all graves being above ground because of New Orleans actually being below sea level. In the afternoon, we'll board the historic Steamboat Natchez, one of the six Authentic Steamboats left on the Mississippi. This two-hour cruise will transport to back into the days of the cotton kings and when life was slow and graceful. You'll also dine on unique Creole lunch after touring the Engine Room and seeing such sites as the Chalmette Battlefield.
OCT 31 ~ We'll be dining at the world famous Court of Two Sister's, where 613 Rue Royale has played a long role in the history of the French Quarter and New Orleans and has the largest courtyard in the city, where we will enjoy a fabulous Jazz Brunch. New Orleans is all yours this afternoon and evening.
Be sure to ride a trolley car and see the Big Easy at a slow pace. Visit one of the many voodoo stops and pick up a love potion. Lunch at the famous Dickie Brennon's with its mouth-watering steaks! And maybe as an evening scare, go on a haunted walking tour! Learn about "the most haunted city in America" and the "singing rain".
NOV 01 ~ We'll be off on our Westbank Plantation Tour. We'll visit three plantations during this nine-hour excursion. On the Great River will enjoy a guided tour of Oak Alley, know for its arched covered driveway, seen in such pictures as Forest Gump and Interview with a Vampire.
Deep in Cajun country along the Bayou Lafourche, we'll stop for lunch and guided tour of historical Madewood.
NOV 02 ~ After breaking your fast on grits and bacon, again the city is yours! Take a trip down to the historical Garden District, where Anne Rice lived and based her famous Vampire books in. Or walk down to Riverwalk where you can shop in Fredrick's of Hollywood or Victoria Secret and hundreds more shops and boutiques.
This evening a walking guided tour is in the agenda. It begins with a three course dinner at Tujagues Restaurant, the second oldest in New Orleans. Our tour guide with then take us on a stroll of Bourbon St., where we'll stop to enjoy some native jazz music with our "on the house" beverage. The evening winds down with another tradition of New Orleans - Café Au Lait and Beignets at Café Du Monde.
NOV 03 ~ The day is planned by boarding a motor coach for the short drive across the river for our fascinating boat trip into the swamps and bayous of Louisiana on a custom made, all weather swamp boat. We'll hear stories about the Cajuns and their life in the bayous, such as how soup turned to gumbo and the washboard became a music instrument.
See all types of native wild life, such as, gators, egrets, raccoons and many, many species of snakes. Bring your camera for the wild life presentation!
NOV 04 ~ Now it wouldn't be a trip if we didn't learn how to make that famous gumbo, so on our last full day in New Orleans, that's what we'll be doing. We'll visit the New Orleans School of Cooking, built in the 1800's as a molasses warehouse, we'll be taught the basics of Louisiana cooking. Help with the making of Gumbo, Jumbalaya and Pralines and let it be a "ga-ron-teed" good time for all!
NOV 05 ~ Today we'll gather our things together for our return flight home.
