The People of Mount Kenya
Mount Kenya represents the ancestral home and heartland of the Bantu-speaking Kikuyu people, Kenya’s largest ethnic group.  They were heavily influential throughout Kenya’s history and provided Kenya with its first President, Mzee Jomo Kenyatta. The Kikuyu have adapted to the challenges of Western culture better than any other tribe and are successful and progressive farmers who grow coffee, tea, pyrethrum horticultural crops, vegetables and flowers for the export market. The Kikuyu remain at the forefront of  Kenyan development, as both successful business people and formidable politicians.

Sweetwaters Tented Camp is a sheltered oasis, clustered around a waterhole and set in the pristine calm of a private wildlife conservancy. Luxury appointed tents with thatched roofs have ensuite bath and verandas with views overlooking the floodlit waterhole and salt-lick. Sweetwaters Tented Camp is in a class of its own, abounding with wildlife including lion and elephant, unfettered by the more rigorous structures of the Kenyan National Parks and designed to offer a charming blend of under canvas ambiance and uncompromising luxury, it has long been the preferred retreat of wilderness and safari lovers alike. The camp prides itself on its first class African, Asian and International cuisine and serves a buffet breakfast every morning as well as daily lunches and a 5-course "table d’hôte" dining experience every evening.

Day 3: TUE Oct 12th - OL PEJETA CONSERVANCY
Today after an early wakeup we enjoy a hot cup of coffee before heading out on our first morning game drive looking for Africa's iconic "Big Five" (Lion, Elephant, Cape Buffalo, Leopard and Rhinoceros). Upon our return to the camp enjoy a hearty full breakfast, followed by some free time to relax and explore this sheltered oasis. Mid afternoon you visit the Ol Pejeta's Chimpanzee Sanctuary, which was opened in 1993 with the support of the world renowned Jane Goodall Institute and the only place in Kenya where this highly endangered and remarkably intelligent species can be seen. Afterwards we venture out on our afternoon game drive before returning for dinner. Enjoy African, Asian and Internationally inspired cuisine in the lodges adorned diningroom with its splendid stone-built fireplaces. Before retiring for the evening, choose to view wildlife at the camp's floodlit watering hole and saltlick.

Day 4: WED Oct 13th - OL PEJETA to LAKE NAKURU NATIONAL PARK
Enjoy a relaxed early morning buffet breakfast before travelling through Kenya's varied landscapes of the Great Rift Valley to Lake Nakuru National Park, arriving just in time for lunch. Lake Nakuru is a bird watchers paradise, dubbed "the greatest bird spectacle on Earth" due to the millions of fuchsia-pink flamingo that flock to feed on the teeming green-blue algae of its alkaline waters. It is also a place where waterbuck number several thousand and a sanctuary to the greatly endangered black rhino. You are also likely to see buffalo, lion, leopard, warthog, zebra, the rare Rothschild's giraffe and huge flocks of water birds including pelicans, marabou storks and the African crowned cranes. Enjoy an afternoon game drive and a drive along the shores of Lake Nakuru before returning to your game lodge which overlooks the lake, within Lake Nakuru National Park. Enjoy a relaxed dinner with your travelling companions before retiring for the evening.
Deluxe Lodging:Sarora Lion Hill Game Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Lake Nakuru National Park
Nakuru means "Dust or Dusty Place" in Maasai language. Lake Nakuru National Park, close to Nakuru town, was established in 1961. It started off small, only encompassing the famous lake and the surrounding mountainous vicinity. Now it has been extended to include a large part of the savannahs. The lake is world famous as the location of the greatest bird spectacle on earth - myriads of fuschia pink flamingoes whose numbers are legion, often more than a million maybe two. They feed on the abundant algae, which thrives in the warm waters. But flamingo are not the only avian attraction, also unforgettable are two fish eating birds, pelicans and cormorants. The lake is rich in other birdlife with over 400 resident species on the lake and in the surrounding park. Lake Nakuru National Park, which surrounds the lake, has recently been enlarged partly to provide a sanctuary for the black rhino. The park now has more than 25 rhinos, one of the largest concentrations in the country. Nowhere else will you get a photo of a rhino backed by a mirage of soft pink flamingos sifting for food on the sky-mirrored waters of one of East Africa's most famous soda lakes.

Savora Lion Hill Game Lodge is set on a plateau in an elevation above Lake Nakuru, and gets its name from the hill directly behind the lodge, formerly a lions' abode. It consists of chalets that all face Lake Nakuru and is a perfect place to experience one of the world's largest ornithological spectacles in the heart of the Great Rift Valley. Set in Lake Nakuru National Park, this exotic park boasts a rich concentration of wildlife including black and white colobus monkeys and is also a rhino sanctuary.

Day 5: THU Oct 14th, LAKE NAKURU to MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
After an early breakfast we set out on our game drive through the park and along the shores of the lake towards the iconic Masai Mara National Reserve, declared the 7th 'Wonder of the World' for hosting the greatest wildlife show on Earth, the annual wildebeast migration. We stop along our drive to enjoy a relaxed lunch before arriving at our Mara lodge, set high on a bush-cloaked hill and washed in a sea of richly rolling grasslands. The Mara offers breathtaking views (seen in the film "Out of Africa", much of which was filmed here) and an extremely high density of animals and birds including Africa's “Big Five” of Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo and Rhinoceros, and the "Big Nine" which includes Cheetah, Zebra, Giraffe and Hippo. Relax and unwind on the grounds before regrouping with your fellow travellers for a spectacular dinner that evening.
Deluxe Lodging: Mara Serena Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The Masai Mara Game Reserve
Is frequently referred to as 'The Mara' which is the 'Maa' word meaning 'Mottled" - a reference to the patchy landscape. It offers breathtaking views (seen in the film "Out of Africa", much of which was filmed here) with an extraordinary density of animals including the 'Big 5' (Lion, Leopard, Elephant, Buffalo, Rhinoceros). Birdlife is as profuse as the wildlife. Both spellings 'Masai' and 'Maasai' are acceptable, although the latter is more usual when referring to the people.

Mara Serena Safari Lodge is within the Masai Mara Mational Reserve and perched high on a bush-cloaked hill, embraced by arcing vistas and washed by a sea of richly rolling grasslands, the Mara Serena has one of the most spectacular views imaginable across one of the world’s richest wildlife sanctuaries. The safari lodge draws its inspiration from the traditional Maasai cultural motif of a cluster of domed, mud-coloured huts and offers a rare blend of raw African splendour, with sumptuous sophistication. The essentially ethnic décor also draws on a vibrant colour-palette of sun-burst colours, embellished by a unique selection of Maasai art to create the look and feel of a traditional bush encampment. The lodge features individual rooms, each with their own balcony and view of eternity, a sky-blue swimming pool and a spectacular restaurant, overlooking a water hole where a fantasia of creatures collect to drink.

Day 6: FRI. Oct 15th, MASAI MARA NATIONAL RESERVE
Before dawn we set out on our morning game drive in the iconic Masai Mara Game Reserve before returning to our lodge for a full breakfast followed by some personal time to relax and unwind. After lunch catch up on some last minute postcard writing before indulging in a refreshing swim at the lodge's stunning sky-blue swimming pool. Mid afternoon we head out on an afternoon game drive where we might be lucky enough to witness a crossing of zebra and wildebeest at the nearby Mara River. We return to our lodge where you'll have time to refreshin up before having a relaxed dinner at the lodges dining room.
Deluxe Lodging: Mara Serena Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The People of 'The Mara'
The Maasai are an indigenous African ethnic group of semi-nomadic people located in Kenya and northern Tanzania and is frequently referred to as 'The Mara', the Maa word meaning mottled - a reference to the patchy landscape. They speak Maa as well as Swahili and English, both official languages of Kenya and Tanzania. Due to their distinctive customs and dress and residence near the many game parks of East Africa, they are among the most well known of African ethnic groups. Although the Tanzanian and Kenyan governments have instituted programs to encourage the Maasai to abandon their traditional semi-nomadic lifestyle, the people have continued their age-old customs.

Day 7: SAT. Oct 16th, MASAI MARA to SERENGETI NATIONAL PARK (WESTERN REGION)
This morning we begin with an early breakfast before setting out on our journey to Africa’s most famous region and UNESCO World Heritage Site, "The Serengeti". The name Serengeti derives from a Maasai word Siringitu - "the place where the land moves on forever." While enroute we stop and enjoy a packed lunch as well as an afternoon game drive. Shortly thereafter we arrive at the Kirawira Tented Camp, the epitome of colonially-styled safari luxury that evokes colourful memories of a bygone era. Relax and unwind on the grounds before enjoying a spectacular dinner at the camp's elegant Edwardian-styled dining tents.
Deluxe Lodging: Kirawira Tented Camp
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Kirawira Tented Camp is the epitome of colonially-styled safari luxury. Designed in typically Edwardian style, it features an elegant central meeting tent evocatively furnished with a tasteful selection of chintz-covered chaises longues, jewel-hued Persian rugs, antique escritoires, wind-up phonograms, leather-bound travelling cases, brass shooting sticks, carved rocking chairs, and stud-backed smoking chairs. The tent also incorporates a stained-glass and mahogany Edwardian bar and a stone flagged, khaki-and-canvas 'Sun downer' terrace looking out over gently sloping acacia groves towards the lilac-grey hills and lion-gold plains of the Serengeti's Western Corridor.

The Serengeti
Africa's most famous region, 'The Serengeti' is known around the world due to the 'Great Migration', when every year, over 1.5 million animals move clockwise around this 14,763 sq. km ecosystem in search of grazing areas and water. Serengeti comes from the Maasai word ‘Siringlit’, meaning ‘the place where land runs on forever’ and refers to the flat grassy plains which make up about a third of the park.  It is these grasslands and savannahs that ensure that the area is jam-packed full of game. There are animals here at any time of year, but from October to May, the area teems with life, including wildebeest, zebra, impala, warthogs, topi, gazelles and hyena.  Lions, leopards and cheetahs can be more easily spotted on the Kopjes, granite rock scultures scattered across the landscape.

Day 8: SUN. Oct 17th, WESTERN SERENGETI to CENTRAL SERENGETI
After an early morning wakeup call enjoy a hot cup of coffee before heading out on your morning game drive. Upon your return to camp enjoy a full English breakfast followed by some free time to unwind. After lunch your free to relax or head out on an afternoon game drive where you might be lucky enough to witness a crossing of wildebeest at the nearby Grumeti River, famed for its giant crocodiles. Later we regroup with the others and begin the journey to the Central region of the Serengeti. We arrive at our exquisite tented camp, the epitome of tented sophistication which is scenically located in an acacia glade and guarded by monolithic granite towers known as kopjes. Relax and unwind on your tent's own verandah before regrouping for dinner at the camp's classically styled dining tent with panoramic views over the sun-blazed plains.
Deluxe Lodging:Mbuzi Mawe Tented Camp

The classically styled dining tent has its own natural stoned shaded terrace for optional outdoor dining while the cuisine blends the traditional camp fare of flame-roasted meats with salads, fresh garden produce, piquant fish dishes and luscious desserts.

Day 9: MON. Oct 18th, CENTRAL SERENGETI
Early this morning before dawn we set out on our morning game drive or optional Hot Air Balloon Safari (see below). OPTIONAL: HOT AIR BALLOON
SAFARI / Champagne Breakfast
For the ultimate thrill seeker a Hot Air Balloon Safari option is an absolute must. Liftoff, and the adventure of a lifetime begins as you slowly open your eyes and see the rising sun's bright orange sphere in the Kenyan sky. You'll be inclined to pinch yourself and stare in disbelief as you see elephants at the watering pool, and the wildebeest, gazelles and zebras scampering away below. A hot bush breakfast with champagne is also included in this optional excursion. Afterwards you'll return to the lodge where you'll have personal time to relax and unwind.

Day 10: TUE Oct 19th, CENTRAL SERENGETI to NGORONGORO CRATER & CONSERVATION AREA
You wake up this morning and enjoy a hearty breakfast before departing for the Ngorongoro crater with a game drive enroute and a scenic picnic lunch. The Ngorongoro Crater and the Olduvai Gorge (The Cradle of Mankind) make up the Ngorongoro Conservation Area, a UNESCO protected World Heritage Site. We arrive mid-afternoon at the Ngorongoro Safari Lodge, built of stone on the jagged rim of this amazing natural phenomenon. Settle into your room before making your way to the Masai-inspired dining room for dinner, with outstanding vistas of the crater below.
Deluxe Lodging: Ngorongoro Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

The Ngorongoro Crater & Conservation Area
The Ngorongoro Conservation Area stretches from the Karatu Highlands to the Serengeti and covers an area of around 8300 sq kms and became a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1979. The centerpiece of the area is the Ngorongoro Crater, the largest unflooded and intact volcanic caldera in the world and a natural sanctuary for the thousands of animals that live inside its enclosure. Formed by the same immense geological upheavals as the Great Rift Valley, the crater was once a mountain as high as Kilimanjaro.  Over 3 million years ago, it exploded covering the Serengeti in ash and its crater floor sank leaving the rim to form a natural enclosure 2,285 meters high. With over 20,000 animals, the Ngorongoro Crater has been described as the best self-contained safari destination in the world. The open grassland makes it easy to police, so it is also a stronghold for the endangered black rhino.

Ngorongoro Serena Safari Lodge is a triumph of ecological and architectural fusion, perched on the jagged rim of the crater, wreathed in morning mist, camouflaged in river-stone and cloaked in indigenous creepers. Rooms are strung around the crater rim, each with its own rock-enclosed balcony and feature brass lamps, embossed leather headboards, wildwood mirrors, Maasai carvings and flamboyant prehistoric wall motifs. The rooms and two-tier dining room offer uninterrupted views of the crater below. Enjoy traditional Maasai fare, long-time safari favourites and internationally themed cuisine in the diningroom.

Day 11: WED Oct 20th, NGORONGORO CRATER to TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
After an early morning breakfast we proceed down into the Ngorongoro Crater for a full morning game drive. The Crater is a microcosm of East Africa, enclosing in one place - grasslands, forests, wetlands and slopes providing habitats to over 20,000 animals including wildebeast, zebra and gazelle as well as sightings of lions, cheetahs and other animals and birds. We enjoy a picnic lunch in the crater before setting out on our journey to Tarangire National Park with a game drive enroute. A thin long park covering a 1360 sq km area along the Tarangire River. It is Tanzania's third largest park with the second largest concentration of game after the Ngorongoro Crater. Majestic baobab trees dot the landscape, seemingly dwarfing the animals that feed beneath them. We arrive just in time to relax and unwind before dinner is served at our lodge, built on top of a high bluff with breathtaking panoramic views of the carved river valley below.
Deluxe Lodging: Tarangire Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Tarangire National Park
It is the vast number of baobabs that first capture the eye as you enter Tarangire National Park. The gently rolling countryside is dotted with these majestic trees, which seem to dwarf the animals that feed beneath them. The park is spectacular in the dry season when many of the migratory wildlife species come back to the permanent waters of Tarangire River. Huge herds of wildebeest, zebras, elephants, eland and oryx gather to stay in Tarangire until the onset of the rains when they migrate again to good grazing areas. Tarangire National Park covers approximately 1,615 square miles and, in the dry season, is second only to Ngorongoro Crater Conservation Area in concentrations of wildlife. Tarangire lies to the south of the large, open grass plains of southern Maasailand, and derives its name from the Tarangire River, which provides permanent water for wildlife in the area.

Tarangire Safari Lodgeis built on top of a high bluff with breathtaking views of the carved Tarangire River valley, a favourite watering place which attracts impressive numbers and variety of game. Luxury tents combine the authentic safari atmosphere of ‘nights under canvas’, with the modern amenities of first-class accommodation and superior hospitality and service. At the heart of the lodge are the impressively high thatched roofs of the lounge and open-aired dining room. The open-sided design allows an uninterrupted view of the landscape and wildlife below, and captures the cooling breeze while you dine on delicious on home-cooked safari cuisine using fresh local ingredients and a hint of African spices.

Day 12: THU Oct 21st, TARANGIRE NATIONAL PARK
After an early morning wakeup call we set out on our morning game drive in Tarangire National Park. The park displays a diverse number of wildlife and over 550 bird species. We return to our lodge and enjoy a relaxed full breakfast with time to swap game drive stories with your fellow travelling companions. In the heat of the day we relax, enjoy a lovely lunch, a swim in the pool or catch up on some reading. Mid afternoon we'll head back out on our afternoon game drive, where we may be lucky enough to view elephants and their babies taking a late afternoon bath in the river. The 'best' time to visit Tarangire is towards the end of the dry season (September to November), when animals from the surrounding ecosystem concentrate in large numbers near the Tarangire River, which is the only permanent water source in the area. We return to our lodge where you'll have time to refreshin up before having a relaxed dinner in the lodges dining room.
Deluxe Lodging: Tarangire Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Day 13: FRI Oct 22nd, TARANGIRE to AMBOSELI NATIONAL PARK
Today after a beautiful breakfast you will proceed to Arusha for shopping and lunch and then leave for the border and Amboseli National Park. The park is best known for unrivalled views of Mt. Kilimanjaro and its elephant population of over 1,000, featuring some of the largest in Africa. After arriving in the park you enjoy a game drive before heading to your accomodations at the Amboseli Safari Lodge. Upon arrival you'll settle in before enjoying dinner in the lodges dining room followed by some free time to relax and enjoy another spectular African sunset.
Deluxe Lodging: Amboseli Safari Lodge
Meals: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Amboseli National Park
This park provides the classic Hollywood image of Africa. Set in rolling savannah scenery it is dwarfed by the presence of the pink-tinged, snow-capped peak of Mount Kilimanjaro which, at 5,896 meters, is the highest free-standing mountain in the world and topped by one fifth of all the ice in Africa. Against this magnificent backdrop roam vast herds of elephant accompanied by a kaleidoscope of other fabulous beasts - lion, buffalo, cheetah, giraffe, baboon, gazelle hippo and wildebeest to name but a few. There are also over 400 species of birds, all manner of reptilian, flora and fauna and some of the most soul-searing views in Africa.

Amboseli Safari Lodge is framed against the glorious backdrop of Africa's highest mountain, the magnificently beautiful Mount Kilimanjaro, surrounded by miles of rolling grasslands, patrolled by vast herds of elephant, shaded by the lush, feathered-green of an acacia grove and hugging the banks of a gently flowing river, this very traditional yet supremely luxurious lodge is the safari destination of a lifetime. .

Day 14: SAT Oct 23rd, AMBOSELI to NAIROBI
Early this morning enjoy your last game drive in Africa before returning to your lodge for a leisurely breakfast. Later bid adieu to Africa and all its wonders as you depart the lodge after lunch and make your way to the Nairobi Airport for your evening international flight home.
